Semarang, August 27, 2023 – The Islamic Economics Study Group (KSEI) of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) again held a national seminar entitled “Sehati Ke-13 FEB UNDIP Seminar Nasional: Optimalkan Ekonomi dan Bisnis Berbasis Syariah”. The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. H. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, through the zoom meeting platform, gave a speech regarding the importance of strengthening the islamic economy in encouraging the tourism sector and the creative economy.

He stated that Indonesia pays serious attention to the development of digital technology, especially those that have a direct contribution to the empowerment of MSMEs. Gen Z and Millennials must have knowledge about digital literacy and digital economy which in the future can also be utilized in the field of business and Islamic economics, so that the Islamic economy becomes an equitable and sustainable economy.

The event, which took place at the KWU Hall of FEB Undip, presented a number of resource persons who are experts in the field of islamic-based economics and business, to discuss the potential and challenges in optimizing the economic sector based on Islamic principles. Dr. Adiwarman Azwar Karim, who also serves as Independent Commissioner of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), outlined the importance of implementing islamic economy in facing current global dynamics. He emphasized that islamic-based economics is not just a trend, but a necessity to realize justice and sustainability in the economic system.

The event was also attended by Dr. Sutan Emir Hidayat, an expert in the field of Islamic Ecosystem Infrastructure at Komite Nasional Ekonomi dan Keuangan Syariah (KNEKS). He shared his views on the importance of strengthening Islamic ecosystem infrastructure as the main foundation in driving sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

The seminar also featured Dr. Gamal Albinsaid, an innovator in the health sector who has successfully created the Waste Insurance Clinic. Irsyad Al Ghifari, as the Presidium Nasional Forum Silaturahmi Studi Ekonomi Islam (FoSSEI) for the 2018/2019 period, was also the guest speaker in this seminar. In the discussion session, they shared their experiences about the role of the younger generation in combining islamic values with innovation, so as to create a positive impact on society.

Before the event closing, there was a question and answer (QnA) session where participants could ask questions to the speakers. This provided an opportunity to explore the topic of Islamic economics and its implications in various sectors. The spirit of collaboration and integration of islamic values with modern innovation is expected to continue to color the steps towards better economic and business development in the future.
