Nha Trang, Vietnam. July 18, 2026 Prof. Dra. Indah Susilowati, M.Sc., Ph.D., Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), actively participated in the 8th International Symposium on Cage Aquaculture in Asia (CAA8) and the Asian Fisheries Society (AFS) Meeting, held in Nha Trang, Vietnam, from July 15–18, 2026. Under the theme “Green and Smart Development of Cage Aquaculture in Asia,” the international forum brought together researchers, academics, practitioners, and fisheries experts from various countries to exchange knowledge and strengthen collaboration toward sustainable aquaculture and coastal development. Prof. Indah’s participation began on July 15, 2026, with the AFS and Organizing Committee Meeting. As an AFS Councilor for the 2025–2028 period and Chair of the Workshop, Symposia and Training Committee, she contributed to discussions on organizational programs, international academic activities, and capacity-building initiatives, particularly those targeting young and early-career researchers and students. The meeting also provided an important platform for strengthening UNDIP’s engagement with the international fisheries scientific community. The official CAA8 program scheduled the AFS and Organizing Committee Meeting from 09:00 to 17:00. On July 16, 2026, Prof. Indah attended the opening of CAA8 and participated in keynote and scientific sessions featuring prominent international scholars and institutional leaders. The opening brought together Liu Liping, President of the Asian Fisheries Society; Quach Hoai Nam, President of Nha Trang University; Luo Yi, Vice-President of Shanghai Ocean University; and Han Gang, representing China’s fisheries technology and extension sector. The symposium also facilitated academic exchange with leading experts including Prof. Dr. Neil Loneragan, Prof. Mai Kangsen, Prof. Chen Liang-biao, A/Prof. Wenbo Zhang, Assoc. Prof. Ching Fui Fui, Prof. Dr. Alice Joan G. Ferrer, and Assoc. Prof. Pham Duc Hung. Their keynote presentations addressed global seafood production, sustainable mariculture, aquaculture transformation, healthy seed production, and the relationship between people, power, and sustainability in Asian aquaculture. A major highlight of Prof. Indah’s participation took place on July 17, 2026, when she served as Chair of Session VI: “Sustainable Welfare, Socio-economics, Livelihoods and Gender in Aquaculture,” together with Dr. Ngo Phuong Linh. In the same session, Prof. Indah presented her research entitled “An Analysis of Carbon Emission from Tourism Activities in Karimunjawa, Indonesia.” The study, co-authored with Zulfikar Al Hafidz, Waridin, Nur Shafika, and Jubakti Anggoro, examined carbon emissions generated by tourism activities in Karimunjawa and highlighted the importance of integrating environmental considerations into sustainable tourism and coastal development. The session also created opportunities for discussion on broader socio-economic and sustainability issues in coastal communities. Throughout CAA8, Prof. Indah engaged in academic exchanges with researchers working on welfare, livelihoods, and gender issues, including Prof. Kyoko Kusakabe and Prof. Alice Joan G. Ferrer, whose contributions addressed women’s empowerment and gender-responsive approaches in aquaculture. Beyond the scientific sessions, Prof. Indah participated in the Gala Dinner at Champa Island Resort and Spa, which served as an informal networking platform for researchers, institutional representatives, and members of the international fisheries community. On July 18, 2026, the program concluded with a field trip, providing participants with practical insights into aquaculture activities in Vietnam, including floating-cage aquaculture and the processing and value chain of seaweed products. Prof. Indah’s participation reflects UNDIP’s commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Her research on carbon emissions from tourism directly contributes to SDG 13 – Climate Action, while the broader discussion on sustainable aquaculture and coastal resource management supports SDG 14 – Life Below Water. Discussions on livelihoods and women’s participation are also relevant to SDG 5 – Gender Equality and SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth. Moreover, knowledge exchange and capacity building for young researchers contribute to SDG 4 – Quality Education, while Prof. Indah’s active role within AFS and engagement with scholars and institutions from different countries strengthens SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals. Through her roles as AFS Councilor, Chair of the Workshop, Symposia and Training Committee, CAA8 Session Chair, and research presenter, Prof. Indah’s participation strengthened UNDIP’s international academic visibility and expanded opportunities for future research collaboration. The engagement also reinforces UNDIP’s commitment to connecting scientific research, international partnerships, and sustainability agendas in addressing the challenges faced by coastal and marine communities.

The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Diponegoro (FEB Undip), has successfully completed a Staff Mobility Program at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town, South Africa. The delegation, represented by Prof. Dr. Indah Susilowati, M.Sc. and Prof. Dr. Faisal, S.E., M.Si., Dean of FEB Undip, participated in the Land, Life and Society International Conference, held from 7–9 October 2025. The international conference brought together scholars and researchers from various countries to discuss the theme “Politics of Land and Resource Contestation in the Era of Global and Local Crises.” The event served as a platform for sharing insights and experiences on land governance, socio-ecological resilience, and sustainable development amid global challenges. During the conference, Prof. Indah Susilowati delivered a presentation titled: “V2V Action Research for Adaptation to Climate Change and Disruptive Shocks: Revitalising Local Wisdom, Culture, and Traditions (LWCT) on the North Coast of Central Java, Indonesia.” Her presentation highlighted Undip’s community-based research initiatives focused on strengthening local adaptive capacities through the revitalization of cultural and traditional practices to respond to climate and socio-economic disruptions. In addition to participating in the conference, the delegation also engaged in a series of academic discussions and collaborative meetings with UWC faculty members to explore potential long-term cooperation in research, teaching, and academic exchanges. Dean Prof. Faisal emphasized that the program has been a valuable opportunity to expand Undip’s global academic network and strengthen its position as a World Class University. “This collaboration not only enhances academic partnerships but also promotes intercultural understanding and supports Undip’s mission to contribute to global knowledge production,” stated Prof. Faisal. The University of the Western Cape (UWC), known for its strong commitment to social justice and sustainable development, shares common academic values with Undip. The synergy between both institutions is expected to pave the way for future initiatives such as joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative publications. Through this successful staff mobility program, Undip reaffirms its commitment to international engagement and continuous improvement of academic excellence, contributing actively to global discussions on sustainability, resilience, and inclusive development.
