Yuzuru Shimada

Yuzuru Shimada is a Professor at Nagoya University, Japan. He studied Asian Law at Nagoya University, where obtained his PhD in 2002 with a dissertation entitled: “Freedom of Expression in Indonesia: Press Regulation During the Soeharto Regime” (in Japanese). He also studied at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia from 1997 to 1998. From October 2012 to September 2013, he stayed at the Van Vollenhoven Institute as a visiting researcher with the research fellowship from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS). His research focuses on the management of the judiciary, in particular the appointment and promotion of judges in the Dutch East Indies colonial court.
