Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Diponegoro (FEB UNDIP) conducted Visiting Professor Program for students on October 7th, 2021 on the initiation of Department of Management FEB UNDIP in cooperation with National Cheng-Chi University (NCCU), one of the best School of Business in Taiwan that has been accredited by AACSB and EQUIS. The lecture was addressed by Prof. Kuo-Feng Huang, the Executive Director of Master of Business Administration, National Chengchi University, Taiwan for the period of 2019-2021. He is also as the initiator of First NCCU Oversea EMBA Program approved by MOE and First English and Chinese Bi-language EMBA Program in Taiwan.

The topic of the event was “Business Innovation and Startups: Dare to Fail: 30 Tips towards Success”. Prof. Kuo-Feng Huang started the lecture by explaining about teaching goals and methods in strategic management which are divided into two ways; one way (Student Presentation and Teacher Lecture) and interactive way (Participant-Centered Discussion and Lecturer-Centered Discussion). Student Participation and participant-Centered Discussion lead to higher percentage of talks by Students, while Teacher Lecture and Lecturer-Centered Discussion lead to higher percentage of talks by Lecturers.

Prof. Kuo-Feng Huang continued with the main topic, Startup’s 3S stages strategic focus consisting of Survive, Succeed, and Sustain. Then, he explained about the key for implementing business as business founder. Some attributes are exploring business opportunity, high achievement motivation, possession of professional knowledge, learning-orientation, high risk tasking, and hands-on. While the capabilities are conceptualize capability (including critical reasoning and integration capability), relationship capability between suppliers, clients, and stakeholders, and technical capability (domain knowledge).

The event was closed by discussion session between Prof. Kuo-Feng Huang and participants. It was very informative, insightful, and interactive session that the students and all participants were able to have better understanding about how to perform and manage a business. One of participants asked about the difference between risk-taking and careless (gambling). Then, Prof. Kuo-Feng Huang explained that risk-taking is carried out based on rational calculations to reduce risk, while gambling is depending on the luck factor. (IOFEB/R)
